Our Founder, Adrita Sarkar
spent her childhood in India's cultural hub, Kolkata. With its rich tapestry of history, literature, art, and architecture, the city's old-world charm left a lasting impact on Adrita.
Growing up in a traditional Bengali household, Adrita was immersed in folk art, music and culture from an early age.
"My childhood had a profound impact on my relationship with art and artisans. I was raised with an immense respect for our ancient artistic traditions and understood the painstaking efforts that went into making any quality handmade creation."
Following her passion with a design degree from the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Kolkata and a professional training in Fashion Marketing from the London College of Fashion, Adrita worked in Marketing and Design for over a decade with some of India's leading fashion retailers.
Throughout her work and travels across the world, Adrita encountered craft clusters and artistic traditions from various cultures, which informed and inspired her design thinking and aesthetics.
"I wanted to go back to my roots and showcase the wealth of Indian artistic traditions I grew up with, by working at the grassroots with our talented local artisans, while staying true to my philosophy of minimal living. In our modern, fast paced lifestyle, I wanted to build a local, homegrown brand that strives to ethically create timeless products that remind us all to slow down, pause time and cherish the beauty of the every day."
This is how Minimal Indian was born.
